Message from Loughman Oaks Administration!
We hope that you are having a safe and enjoyable winter break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on January 4. We recognize that a lot has changed over the past two weeks with the omicron variant causing an increase in COVID-19 cases nationwide. As we continue to live through this ever-changing pandemic, we are committed to keeping our schools safe and open for in-person instruction. We will continue to follow district and DOH guidelines, as well as continued efforts to encourage hand-washing, use of sanitizer, and cleaning/disinfecting of our classrooms.
I also wanted to share that as of last day (12/17) before break, our enrollment was sitting at 1169 students. On the first day back, we are starting 21 new students. We have been steadily enrolling anywhere from 40 to 50 (new students) a month. I have been in constant contact with district leadership regarding our explosive growth and because of this we have acquired 8 new portable classrooms to help with the overcrowding. They have started to deliver them and once they are dropped, installation of utilities will commence. The district has been aware of our “CAR line” situation and have promised reconfiguration of the parking lot. Until this happens, we are looking at trying to accommodate 400+ cars in the AM and PM.
Regarding the car rider line, I need you to be patient with this situation, be respectful of each other and remember, we are modeling good behavior for our students. You cannot honk rudely, curse at staff or other parents or try to run over people. It is embarrassing to have to admit, that this has occurred throughout this school year.
I leave you all with this message, we have survived a very bumpy 2021. Now we know better ,so it’s time to do better.
The Administration and staff of Loughman Oaks Elementary wish you all, an amazing 2022!
Safety and Health Update
Polk County Public Schools is implementing numerous protocols to provide a safe and healthy environment for students and staff. Here’s a look at the measures we’re putting into place for the 2021-22 school year. For more information on our safety protocols, visit polkschoolsfl.com/backtoschool.
SCHOOLS• Students and staff will be reminded throughout the day to practice proper hygiene, and signage promoting proper hygiene will be posted on campuses. • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout each campus. • Social distancing will be encouraged to the greatest extent possible in schools and classrooms (Guidelines are 3 to 6 feet, where possible) • Seating charts will be used to assist with social distancing as well as contact tracing efforts in the event of a positive case. • Students will not share devices and supplies. • Facilities will be cleaned thoroughly and regularly, and high-touch areas will be disinfected throughout the day. • Deep cleaning will take place when there is a confirmed case of COVID-19.
CAFETERIAS • High-touch points such as the tray slide, milk box and keypad will be frequently sanitized. • Tables will be sanitized between lunch periods. • Disposable trays and cutlery are being used • Designated entrances and exits will control traffic flow and minimize exposure. • All condiments will be pre-portioned. No self-serve dispensers will be used. • There will be no self-service bars.
COVID-19 RESPONSE • PCPS will work closely with the Florida Department of Health in Polk County to notify school communities about a confirmed positive case. • A schoolwide notification will be sent when a positive case impacts a campus. • Individuals who have come into close contact exposure with a positive case (within six feet for 15 minutes or more) will also be notified by an automated telephone call. • Individuals who have come into close contact exposure with a positive case will receive specific instructions on what to do next (quarantine, isolate, monitor their symptoms, etc.).
As I shared before these are everchanging times and as we get information we analyze, regroup and adapt. I will try my best to send you information in a timely manner so that we can all navigate this storm together and be successful in the end.
The Administration of Loughman Oaks Elementary
